2011 European Heritage Days: Guided tours at the Civic Museums of Rome
On Saturday September 24th and Sunday, September 25th, Italy will celebrate the European Heritage Days, a cultural event first conceived by the European Council in 1991 as a way to favour and strengthen cultural dialogue and exchange among European countries.
The Office of the Superintendent of Cultural Heritage of Roma Capitale, in cooperation with the Ministry of Cultural Heritage, is organizing a grand celebration which includes free entrance to select museums and historic monuments and a program of guided tours and lectures dedicated to the theme of Italy – a European Treasure.
Lead by the directors and curators of the museums themselves, the public will be encouraged to discover the richness and diversity of the patrimony of Roma Capitale through its masterpieces which recount a period that spans from antiquity up to the 20th century, and which serve as a leitmotif to explore the themes of European culture in general and the values of cultural identity.
